The JE Dunn office at the Neuhoff District, known as “The Curve,” transforms a historic brick building into a dynamic and modern workspace while preserving its industrial character. This adaptive reuse project integrates three interconnected structures, each with distinct architectural features, to create a cohesive and functional environment that reflects the client’s expertise in construction, historic preservation and adaptive reuse.
Exposed brick, raw concrete, steel beams and black-framed windows serve as a foundation for the design, celebrating the building’s original materials while introducing refined, contemporary elements. Warm stained oak accents, sleek furnishings, and interior glass partitions provide contrast, creating a sophisticated yet authentic aesthetic. The minimalist color palette, punctuated by blue and orange tones inspired by the client’s brand, enhances the overall composition. Strategic lighting highlights the existing textures, while the exposed ceiling structure emphasizes the unique column capitals and architectural details across the three buildings.
Flexibility and efficiency are central to the design. A spacious mezzanine offers potential for future expansion, while the adaptable layout accommodates both focused work and large gatherings. Thoughtful space planning maximizes functionality, allowing the office to evolve with the company’s needs. Beyond functionality, the design serves as a living showcase of JE Dunn’s construction expertise. By preserving and exposing key structural elements, the space highlights the firm’s craftsmanship and ability to blend historic and modern design seamlessly.
The Curve is more than an office—it is a statement of innovation and preservation, demonstrating how historic spaces can be reimagined to support modern workplace needs while honoring their architectural legacy.
