The Brentwood Academy chapel is a multi-purpose, sacred space designed to blend seamlessly with the campus while embodying the mission of “whole person – body, mind, and spirit – to the glory of God.” Serving both as a worship space and classroom, it provides flexibility and functionality while maintaining a deep spiritual connection. The design combines strong verticality, transparency and a layering of thoughtful details to create a space that feels rooted in its environment and purpose.

The design team responded to the client’s goals by creating a chapel that is both enclosed and connected to nature. The building is situated surrounded by trees, designed with natural materials like wood to enhance the sense of place. Large glass walls open the space to the landscape, while flexible seating and a central glass axis with a cross emphasize the chapel’s spiritual focus. A strong pitched roof and axial organization create a religious architectural identity, bringing focus and hierarchy to the space.

Several innovative design elements distinguish the chapel, including exposed roof trusses, and a high central roof axis with clerestory windows. Large glass expanses offer unobstructed views of nature, enhancing the sense of connection to the environment.
