ESa continues to design phased growth of the Parkwest Medical Center campus since completing a major expansion in 2005, which added over 200 new beds and expanded key service areas. Designed for vertical expansion, the new, three-story surgery and bed tower addition provides a fresh façade with intuitive connections and new campus amenities. Placement adjacent to existing surgery areas streamlines services and preserves the site for future development. The relocation of a major street to the campus perimeter also accommodates convenient staff and visitor parking.
A new surgical entry, with a two-story atrium and waiting areas, seamlessly integrates with the existing campus and its functionality. Responding to increased need for orthopedic services in today’s healthcare market, the expansion includes 10 new ORs, 30 new PACU beds, 12 private pre-op beds and 46 new surgery pre/post staging rooms. Creative design approaches such as providing efficient outpatient flow and separate patient discharge areas; the addition of 72 new med/surg beds in double-loaded patient corridor configurations; and the inclusion of larger than average staff lounges support improved experiences and outcomes for patients and staff.
Utilization of stone, brick and other materials familiar to the region—along with windows and glazing that provide abundant natural light, encourages patient healing and community transparency. The amenities of a café and flexible conference center support staff, family and community convenience and education. Strategic implementation of this major expansion allowed the facility to remain fully operational with minimal disruption.
