Complementing the architecture of Regional Health’s main hospital campus, the exterior blends local vernacular style with more modern elements. Vertical and horizontal components represent natural elements found in the region, like the Black Hills, Badlands and prairies. Core materials such as glass, stone, masonry and metal, as well as outdoor gardens for dining, contemplation and respite, reinforce connection to nature. The building is designed for easy horizontal expansion of surgery, inpatient beds and pre- and post-procedure areas.
