Lean processes and efficiencies were incorporated into the design of this critical access replacement hospital located in rural southeastern Nebraska. The hospital provides services not often found in such rural areas and intentionally separates back-of-house and public circulation. For further convenience, ED, pre- and post-op, and med/surg nursing areas are specifically located to allow physical and visual access for communication.
Public areas include a lobby, central registration, gift shop, chapel, and dining amenities. The project also features the first geothermal system installed in a hospital in the state of Nebraska. Adjacent to the hospital’s main lobby, a physician’s office building is integrated into the facility. The medical office building includes an outpatient rehabilitation suite, primary/specialty clinics, information technology, medical records, and other administrative spaces. The 18-bed, single-story critical access hospital also includes full OB services, a rarity for a more rural facility. Other patient diagnostic spaces include ED, surgery, medical, imaging, endoscopy, PACU, and a sleep lab, among others.
