The new Amherst Health Center, part of University Hospitals, expands UH Rainbow Children’s Hospital and other primary care services in Lorain County, offering families access to a wide range of primary and specialty care physicians. The facility includes the ValueHealth Amherst Beaver Creek Surgery Center, which offers outpatient surgical services, various medical specialties, and state-of-the-art medical technology. The center aims to enhance local access to high-quality healthcare, reducing the need for residents to travel to larger cities.
This collaboration brings together top pediatric care and orthopedic specialists from University Hospitals to deliver procedures in general orthopedics, spine surgery, ear/nose/throat (ENT) and pain management. With five operating rooms, a procedure room, and state-of-the-art equipment, the center is designed to ensure high-quality care in a comfortable setting, allowing patients to recover at home after surgery. The facility also introduces an innovative concept of stay suites, offering patients the option of overnight observation in a space designed for comfort and care.
The design of the Amherst Health Center and Beaver Creek Surgery Center focused on creating a state-of-the-art medical campus on a 12-acre site, expanding the services of University Hospitals and Rainbow Children’s Hospital to Amherst and the surrounding communities. A significant design feature is the large outdoor Healing Garden, which includes a labyrinth, lush greenery, private seating, and meditation areas, enhancing the wellness of both patients and staff. The campus design not only prioritizes superior patient care but also emphasizes the relationship between the buildings and the surrounding outdoor environment.
The interior design of the Ambulatory Surgery Center was crafted to make patients feel comfortable and confident, with a hospitality-inspired aesthetic featuring warm, modern finishes that maintain a clean medical environment. The surgery lobby is welcoming, with high ceilings, natural light, and wood accents around the check-in area, which combines openness with patient privacy. The waiting room includes a café with quartz countertops and wood accents, enhancing the inviting atmosphere. The pre/post-op space follows a racetrack layout for efficient staff workflow and high patient visibility, with a light, neutral color palette and ample lighting. Nurse stations feature upgraded finishes, serving as focal points throughout the space, while the operating rooms have seamless poured epoxy flooring, ensuring the highest standards of sterility.
Additionally, the Stay Suites, connected to the Surgery Center, offer hotel-like rooms where patients can recover while remaining close to medical staff. The suites’ lobby and waiting areas reflect a modern hotel ambiance, enhancing the patient experience. The medical office building design complements the Surgery Center, featuring natural light, porcelain tile flooring, solid surface check-in stations, and wood accents in the waiting areas. The medical suites continue this aesthetic, with light, warm tones and wood luxury vinyl flooring, creating a cohesive and upgraded interior environment.
