The Nashville Ballet’s aging facility, which had become inadequate in meeting the program’s needs, was in much need of renovation. A 51,000 square foot renovation and adaptive reuse of an adjacent climbing gym provided a simple, contemporary solution to an existing warehouse façade. The design team developed a modern, economic design solution to bring identity and unity to the campus.
The color red, Nashville Ballet’s signature color, flows throughout the building, connecting the expanded facility. Renovations incorporate larger public spaces, including a new lobby designed to accommodate over 100 people during special events. New offices and conference rooms were also added to meet staff needs and allow for future growth, and additional studios allowed annual enrollment to increase 250 percent. Windows from the lobby area into the dance studios permit public interaction with the dancers and create a sense of collaboration and unity.
