This new 100-bed community hospital, designed during the height of the COVID pandemic, features operating rooms, cath lab, radiology, emergency, obstetrics, medical/surgical services, administrative and support services. The campus planning included a 60,000 square-foot, three-story medical office building that opened simultaneously with the hospital.
Designed with future expansion in mind, the facility allows for horizontal growth of key service lines such as emergency, imaging and surgery. This planning will allow for expansion, while minimizing operational disruption to existing services.
The hospital utilizes a minimalist material palette of brick, EFIS and glass that coordinates with the neighboring mixed-use Kingsley development. Standing at three-stories, the layout is organized for easy way-finding, with the main entry and emergency department walk-in visible from the nearby roadways.
The design team was challenged to create a dense, operationally efficient design within tight budget constraints. The implementation of prototypical elements, Lean planning, standardization of spaces, operational efficiencies and flexibility within the design combined to create a cost-effective solution to this project challenge. The integrated project team utilized a fast-track delivery method with a target-value design approach to control costs and meet the aggressive construction schedule.
