ESa recently conducted a post-occupancy evaluation of Monument Health’s Emergency Department in Rapid City, S.D., revisiting the project several years after opening to understand what was working, what had changed and how the space was adapting to evolving patient and operational needs.
Drawing on those findings, clinical operations/design specialist, Emily Karbo, and senior design manager, Justin Roark explore four lessons for designing emergency departments that can adapt over time — from flexibility and evolving patient acuity to staff connectivity, privacy and visibility.
