The 1221 Grundy Street project is a new development that breathes new life into an existing surface parking lot in Nashville, Tenn. The project transforms the space into a vibrant dual-branded hotel, complete with approximately 14,000 square feet of retail space. The design is a beautiful blend of contemporary and contextual elements, featuring a masonry podium that pays homage to Nashville’s rich country music heritage. Above, the glass tower seamlessly integrates into the Gulch neighborhood, enhanced by a subtle bronze slab cover that reflects humanizes and scales down the mass of windows.
Despite the challenges of tight site conditions and the complexity of developing a dual-branded hotel, the project team rose to the occasion by creating separated arrival sequences for each hotel brand. Through close collaboration with the client and both hotel brands, and by securing a Bonus Height Modification from the City of Nashville, they maximized the available square footage. The result is a series of innovative features, including double high space lobbies, luxurious rooftop amenities like a pool and public space, expansive floor-to-ceiling window walls, and a sustainable green roof.
The 1221 Grundy Street project not only adds a significant hospitality and retail destination to Nashville but also enhances the urban fabric by improving street and sidewalk conditions, making the area safer and more pedestrian friendly. The project stands as a testament to innovative design, strategic planning, and effective collaboration, contributing to the ongoing growth and vibrancy of the Gulch neighborhood.
