A phased expansion and renovations allow the Tanner Medical Center to improve operational efficiencies, bolster healing aesthetics, and gain capacity. Two new lobbies are included in the additions: a new one-and-a-half story emergency department lobby and a two-story outpatient surgery lobby with clerestory windows.

Allowing in natural light, a series of skylights adds a unique touch to the emergency department, while a new bistro café off the outpatient lobby welcomes visitors. Six existing ORs were expanded to ten, a new staging and PACU were added, and sterile processing was redesigned. Other areas included in the project are the addition of patient care beds, pre-admitting testing, a pharmacy, and an observation unit. Phase I encompasses a new stand-alone central energy plant and a two-level expansion to the parking structure with a new elevator core, while Phase II focuses on the common and clinical areas. A connector on the first level ties the ED to the existing bed tower. Integration of the expansion within the existing spaces is designed to be seamless, with the existing main entry lobby and corridor tied to the new outpatient lobby.
